A constant quest:
Bonnies clay career covers over more than 53 years,
working from earthenware through stoneware and porcelain.
Her curiosity created a constant quest for art experiences
in the two-dimensional form until she touched clay. There
she found that the material could speak to her as basic
as the earth from which it is made. Each experiment gave
her the knowledge to take the next step and to meet the
challenge confronting her. A realist by nature and coming
from the classic school of pottery, she pursued a career
in clay that opened many doors of opportunity.

An endless curiosity:
Ed is one of those individuals with a mind with an endless
need for knowledge. He is an avid listener and full of curiosity
and interest; he pursues the ideas that come to him. He
treats clay with honor and respect for the materials used,
for the processes of formation and firing, and giving homage
to the ancestors whose teachings he follows in the culmination
of his work. This aspect forms the very core of his life
and it touches all who associate with him. His role as a
teacher includes these beliefs and he integrates them into
his relationships with students. Honor and respect are his
guideposts in life. His art career spans over more than
four decades.
A sweetgrass braid:
Bonnie moved from Ohio to a northern Michigan area that
abounded in wildflowers, unspoiled beaches and much wildlife
at her studio door. This greatly influenced her pottery.
When Ed had a gallery in northern MIchigan, their paths
crossed and he found Bonnies work. When Ed wanted
to change some directions in his work as a metal sculptor,
so he turned to Bonnie to learn about clay. When he entered
unchartered waters, much research was done by both to find
the answers and direction needed to accomplish the task.
They relate their paths to a sweetgrass braid, intertwining
and held together with their friendship. Within all of this
they are striving to leave their individual footprints.
